Case Study: How HP Set a New Sustainability Standard for Global Tech Events

The Challenge

As a global technology leader, HP has long been recognised for its commitment to sustainability through its products, operations, and broader ESG efforts. However, when it came to their global events portfolio, HP saw an opportunity to do more, to lead by example and set a new standard for sustainability within the tech events space and this is where we, at From Now, came in.

HP approached us to help embed sustainability into a flagship global tech event, one that would set the standard for their future event activity. They were seeking a partner who could help align the strategy and execution of this particular event with their overarching sustainability and circularity goals, ensuring that every element reflected their environmental values. The timing aligned with a broader internal push to solidify HP’s position as the most sustainability-focused technology provider in the industry.

The Solution

We partnered with HP’s global events and sustainability teams to design and deliver a strategy that would transform their events from the inside out. This wasn’t just about ticking boxes. It was about rethinking how a tech event could operate sustainably while still delivering on experience, scale, and impact.

Together, we aligned the event planning process with HP’s ESG and circularity goals, ensuring sustainability was embedded from the outset. We prioritised local suppliers, venues and talent to minimise carbon emissions and support local economies, while integrating carbon reduction strategies across all areas of production, including travel, logistics, materials and catering. We established frameworks for community legacy initiatives, including donation partnerships and material repurposing programmes. We also delivered clear sustainability communications and compiled detailed post-event impact reports to ensure transparency.

The key challenge was to integrate these efforts seamlessly into this large-scale, complex event, without compromising on innovation or attendee experience

The Results

HP’s sustainable event transformation delivered on all fronts. By prioritising local sourcing, digital integrations and low-impact logistics, the carbon footprint of HP’s events has been significantly reduced year-on-year. These events are now recognised across the industry, with multiple awards won not just in sustainability categories, but across broader experience and innovation awards too including Best Tech Event (Conference News), Tech Event – Gold (Eventex), and Best Approach to Sustainability (Campaign Experience).

Beyond environmental benefits, HP also saw tangible business results. Cost efficiencies were gained through smarter sourcing and reduced transport, while overall event quality improved. Attendee feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with guests noting both the seamless experience and HP’s visible commitment to sustainability.

Importantly, the event also created meaningful community impact, through food donation schemes, material reuse partnerships and collaborations with local grassroots organisations. HP’s event model now stands as a global benchmark for how the tech industry can lead on sustainability, not just in products, but in practice.
